Detailed Eligibility for BPSC Civil Judge
  • Civil Judge (Junior Division): Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent degree from a university/institute recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI).Experience: Minimum 3 years of practice as a legal practitioner in the Bar as on 23.02.2026. Practice certificate must be certified by the Principal Judicial Officer of the concerned court or an advocate with 10 years of experience authorized by the Principal Judicial Officer.

Special Terms & Conditions
Officers resigning before completing 3 years of service must provide 3 months’ notice or deposit 3 months’ salary.
Defective Colour Vision is not a ground for disqualification.
Maximum 5 attempts allowed for non-reserved category candidates.
Reservation benefits are applicable only to permanent residents of Bihar state.

BPSC Civil Judge Exam Pattern 2026

  • Preliminary Exam: Two papers – Paper I (General Studies: 100 Marks, 90 Mins) and Paper II (Law: 150 Marks, 120 Mins).
  • Main Exam (Compulsory): General Hindi (100 Marks – Qualifying), General English (100 Marks – Qualifying), General Knowledge including Current Affairs (150 Marks), Elementary General Science (100 Marks), Law of Evidence & Procedure (150 Marks).
  • Main Exam (Optional): Candidate must choose 3 out of 5 subjects (Constitutional/Administrative Law, Hindu/Muslim Law, Transfer of Property/Equity/Trusts, Contracts & Torts, Commercial Law) – 150 Marks each.
  • Interview: 100 Marks (Minimum 35% qualifying marks required).

  • Law of Evidence & Procedure (Revised): Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, Civil Procedure Code 1908, Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Provincial Small Cause Courts Act 1887, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.
